If you find self love impossible, you’re not alone. Many people struggle to accept themselves for a myriad of reasons. For one, society has an unattainable beauty standard that many feel they need to meet. We compare ourselves to Instagram models and celebrities, when in reality, they don’t even really look like that! Magazines and the media can teach us that we’re too much of something and not enough of another, no matter who we are or what we look like.
You may even have a deeper mental health issue. Perhaps you’ve struggled ever since you were young because you had an overly critical parent, or there’s another reason. Remember to get your physical health checked with Northern Spire Hearing Services. Whatever your reasons for struggling to love yourself, there are ways you can work on self love no matter how hard you find it. However, you have to commit to doing it. You’re the only one who has to live with you forever, so accepting yourself will make your life so much easier. In fact, loving yourself in this society is quite a rebellious act – but more and more people are waking up and doing it anyway! Is it time for you to rebel? Here’s what to do:
Try To Get To The Root Cause
You may not always be able to pinpoint the root cause of why you feel the way you do. However, if you can think back, you may be able to remember a few moments that shaped your thinking into what it is today. This is your opportunity to realize that your insecurities were never yours in the first place. You can release them!
Come Away From Social Media For A Little While
It may be time to come away from social media, especially if you know you compare yourself endlessly to photoshopped pictures. You don’t need to stay away forever, but it can’t be a bad thing to take some time away and get some perspective.
Speak To A Professional
If you feel that these problems are too much to deal with alone, speaking to a professional could be the best course of action. Discuss your feelings and thoughts with you and they can help you to break them down. Maybe you want to find out more about cosmetic surgery but you’re not sure if it’s the right path for you. Speaking to a pro first could be the way to go.
Do Things Alone
Get to know yourself by doing things alone. You don’t need somebody there to hold your hand or allow you to enjoy nice things in life. Expand your interests and try new things, learning about yourself as you go.
Change Your Perspective
Changing your train of thought isn’t easy but it is possible. Speak to yourself like you would a friend. Work on this regularly.
Practice Self Care
Remember when you say ‘yes’ to something you don’t want to do just to please other people, you are saying ‘no’ to yourself. Saying no can be an act of self care. Make sure you take care of yourself in other ways, too. Pamper yourself, set boundaries, and do things you enjoy.

This was a very needed read! I think that with the idea that you need to be perfect and follow society standards on beauty, we did loose a lot of self love. Talking to someone and taking time for yourself I think are the best way to get to the root of the solution and learn to love ourselves. I think it’s an ongoing journey, but a truly needed one!

Loved this post 🖤 I try and embrace alone time because I find myself to grow through reflection. I’ve also considered to take breaks from social media far more often like IG.
