Life is expensive. Traveling is even more expensive, right?
Well, not necessarily. No matter your situation or preferences, you should still be able to travel and stick to a budget. With the following tips and tricks, you might even be able to go abroad, soak in a different culture, and still find ways to keep your bank account happy.
Backpacking
First things first, we go for the classic budget adventure. What is backpacking?
Well, the word can be used to describe long hikes that involve a backpack to carry all you’re essentials. But backpacking can also refer to a vacation where, you guessed it, you essentially live out of a backpack.
When you’re backpacking, you stay on the move and save money. No, this won’t be a luxurious trip, but it will be an adventure.
You can stay in hostels and other cheap accommodations, and explore different cities and places. The backpack also means that you don’t have to check any luggage, saving you even more money and allowing you to quickly and easily start your trip.
Work as a Digital Nomad
Rather than saving money on your vacation, you could consider earning money. If you have a job that allows you to work from home, then you might also be able to work while on the move.
This is an especially great option for freelancers, as you can scale your work back to give yourself time to enjoy yourself and explore your new location. But you will also counter the costs of the trip and may even cover them completely.
You can combine backpacking and working as a digital nomad, relying on public wifi and a good backpack to keep you going. But even if you are enjoying a more relaxed, luxurious trip, a few hours of work each day will help.
Road Trips
If backpacking doesn’t appeal to you, then consider a more local vacation and go on a road trip. It doesn’t really matter what country you live in, anywhere has at least one fantastic road trip route to try and explore.
When planning a road trip, plan for rest stops and make sure you know the route well. You can go away for a day trip, a weekend, or even longer. Just make sure you plan ahead and that other people also know where you are.
When picking companions for the road trip, try to make sure that at least one other person can drive, allowing you to rest, and that the others will get on in a small, cramped car. Believe it or not, you can have a lot of fun on a road trip.
Cheap Family Holidays Abroad
When you have children, you have fewer options. Yes, you can go camping, but going abroad might seem impossible.
Well, not necessarily. You can still find some inexpensive places to visit, it just requires more planning. Another option is to go for a cheap and cheerful all-inclusive vacation, such as center parcs belgium where your kids can enjoy themselves.
