Hey lovelies, I can’t believe that I’ve been blogging so long now it’s been a crazy journey. I haven’t shared any blogging tips in a year, so today I thought I’d share some of the most useful things that I’ve learnt in the last four years. Also this is my 300th post – so hurrah!
Know Your Audience
If blogging has taught me anything, it’s that you need to know your audience, the type of person that follows you and reads your blog, who your writing most appeals to, and who reads your words? For me its females in the 18-30 range, as this is most of my following base. Knowing your audience allows you to make content that you want to, and that appeals to what your readers want to or enjoy reading. If you’re on blogger, google analytics is an actual babe tool for showing you these kind of statistics.
Utilize Social Medias
I know that many bloggers will rave about different social medias and which is the best for utilising blog views or growth via social media. For me, I’ve always found twitter the most comfortable social media, I’m not a fan of instagram for blog posting, whilst I know most people do I don’t, and therefore I don’t use it for my blog. Pinterest is another powerhouse for blog views if you can use it correctly. I honestly believe, the best one to use, is the one you feel best about, there isn’t a prescribed way of doing it.
You’ll Make Mistakes
As in anything, you will make mistakes. You’ll write things that you’ll reflect on and you may not love, you might write tweets or Instagram posts that in a year or two you reflect on and don’t love or think differently off. This is normal with growth, you’ll mess up and yes most of this can be recritifed but don’t be too hard on yourself. We are all human, and everyone learns from the things that they make, write, do.
You Won’t Always Feel Motivated
I feel like with blogging you feel like you need to be working all the time, and realistically it’s not possible unless you blog full time and or don’t have other commitments. There will be periods of time when you can’t write, and there is time to write. For me this was in the final year of my degree, when my dissertation was my priority and no amount of scheduling helped me keep up with blogging. There are going to be times when you have writers block and the motivation won’t be there, and that’s when you need to take a break and be kind on yourself.
Stock Images Are A God Send
Honestly, the longer you are at blogging I think photography either grows on you or you begin to hate it. In the winter months or when you’re working a lot taking photography daily or even weekly can be too difficult to fit into your schedule. There are many stock websites, that offer free to use images and many of them offer great pieces of photography you can use, my personal favourite is Pexels because of how large the image library is.
I’d love to know in the comments what’s the best thing that blogging has taught you, personally I think it’s taught me a special kind of kindness towards people you don’t know, to bin the witch hunt mentality and to be kinder yourself when you make mistakes and take healthy breaks.
