Hey lovelies, y’all go crazy for the Pinterest content so here I am today, with even more Pinterest content. This is a really tricky one to talk about because Pin Designs can vary massively between creators and really any pin can gain traction, but hopefully these tips will help. If you’re new to Pinterest start with my 2.2 million impression on Pinterest in 30 days and if you can pick up a copy of The Ultimate Pinterest Guide. (af)
What Should I Be Using To Make My Pins
Knowing where to start if you are new can be hard, I use Canva for all my designs. I have the Pro version, although you don’t need the pro version to create pins that perform well. I just like the fancy fonts and extra features. I also use Adobe Spark, you can get a two month free trial when you sign up so you don’t need to pay to try it.
I’m Not Getting Any Clicks Or Impressions
This could be a variety of issues, it could be the times your posting, it could be tags you’re using, it could be pin design, or all three. The only way to work out which one it is, is to eliminate the others. Try using new tags, try posting at different times. The results you get can be used to find what works for you and your pins.
Also use the Pinterest Trending page, it’s a gold mine for views. I’ve previously had a pin with trending tags get 1.6K views in an hour, it still brings me traffic today.
I’m Getting Impressions But No Clicks
This is a good thing because it means that your tags or keywords aren’t the issue. When this happens in my experience it means that your pin design probably isn’t as clickable you as you think it is. I shared this comparison on twitter previously.
As you can see the pin on the left has 111K impressions and just 41 link clicks and the on the right has 11K impression and 101 link clicks. If the design on the left was as clickable as the one of the right it could have a couple more hundred link clicks.
The issue in this case is the text. The pin on the right has the text at the bottom, it’s not very large, it doesn’t advertise the post the best it could. Where as the other pin very clearly and boldly tell you what the post is, it’s not clickbait, it’s to the point and it works.
If you’re not getting clicks, look at your posts that are, take elements that work from one pin and use it on a new design. Playing around with the design can sometimes teach you what does and doesn’t work, I understand not everyone has the time for this but if you can I recommend doing it.
Make Your Designs Visually Consistent
Before I even start here. Make sure the images you use aren’t blurry. Make sure they’re the right size for Pinterest.
Consistency with pins is everything. Which is why batch making them can be super helpful. Consistency doesn’t need to be the exact same design, but they need to have a similarity, aka the same fonts, colour scheme, design elements and image style.
I personally try to use a similar italic style of font mixed with a bold font and pastel colours (mainly pinks, blues and lilac).
What About Pre-Made Pin Designs
So if everything else is failing for you or for ease of access you need pre-made pins then you can buy designs on Etsy. I recently did this and saw some hit some really good impressions straight away. I really recommend having a look around but here are some cool designs you might like – I’d tried top include ones that would be good for all niches.
Canva Customisable Pinterest templates – I have used one of the designs from this creator to make this pin and it already has reached 18k impressions (bonus points if you re-pin).
I highly recommend getting a copy of Master Pinterest Like A Pro too, it’s a super useful free resource.
If there’s anything about Pinterest you want to know more about please leave a comment and I will try to make a post on it!

I’ve definitely broken down and purchased pin templates to use, and it has helped a little bit. I went from getting no clicks to getting some, so now it’s time to keep working on the other factors! No shame in admitting pin creation is currently a weak point for me.

I typically get pretty decent impressions on my pins, but I want to increase the clicks. I’ll have to study the time I’m pinning a little further, and work harder on my keyword research. Thanks for these excellent tips!

This is great. I think what I find hard with pin design is, one week the pin can be doing really good, so I emulate the same design for another post, but then that one doesn’t do as well. I think because Pinterest is a long game type of platform, sometimes you don’t know the try effects of the pin until much later down the line (and I have probably forgotten all about it). Maybe that is the tags/keywords though Love your Pinterest series tips, they have been very helpful!
Thanks for sharing!

Really handy tips. I use Canva too, so easy and lots of different designs to choose from. I need to up my Pin game, interesting about consistency in Pins, I have always varied mine slightly, not out of conscious choice just because I liked different designs or number of photo’s used.
