Hey lovelies, it is bank holiday weekend and it gorgeous outside. Most of mine has been spent inside eating strawberries, drinking homemade vodka mango slushies and figuring out what mistakes I’ve been making with Pinterest. I think this is helpful to share because Pinterest can be a mindfield if you don’t know what you’re doing and you’re wondering why your starts/followers/views aren’t going up. I’ve been there too – I’ve had some bad days for traffic and I’ll be sharing that too, and I’ve made Pinterest mistakes. Check out my 2.2 million impression on Pinterest in 30 days
You’re Not Using The Ultimate Pinterest Guide
If you’re new to using Pinterest then I recommend you buy this product, it’s like the holy grail of Pinterest to me. My stats started improving once I started reading it and knew what I was doing. It maps out how to optimise your profile, boards and pins for success. Before using it I didn’t have any keywords on my board etc, I didn’t even know how to do those things. It helped me so much – and the proof is in the stats. I avoided some big Pinterest mistakes by not going solo, I highly recommend it. Pick up a copy of The Ultimate Pinterest Guide. (af)
Your Pin Design Isn’t Clickable
Ever had pins that get a ridiculous amount of impressions and no clicks? This used to happen to me often where I would get 200K-400K impressions and less than a 100 clicks. The text wasn’t large enough, it didn’t have a clickable look. I had no idea what I was doing and it showed.
I changed this by making mutiple designs and checking with a friend if they would click on it based on the image/colour/text. If you’re struggling to figure it out then I really recommend doing this.
You’re Not Using The Right Keywords
Keywords are what I struggled with the most when starting with Pinterest, there’s no list of what you should use and I found it hard to find ones that worked. I also found it really hard to find keywords that gained traction. I ended up taking some of the tips I’ve learnt from Nele’s Keyword Research For Bloggers and used this as a way of finding better hashtags – the course is for SEO but it worked for me.
I really recommend checking the Trending Page when you’re looking for new content to make, as pins posted in the trending always gain an incredible amount of clicks in my experience. I personally always focus on the US one as most of traffic is from the states.
You’re Not Posting To Enough Group Boards
I know this is controversial because not everyone believes that group boards are worth it. But, I’ve always seen an increase in traffic and in impressions from posting. Niche specific boards will help most, but there are some really engaging group boards out there. If need some to join, here are the group boards I run.
You’re Not Posting At The Right Times
I’ve mentioned this before in my Pinterest posts, but timing is literally everything. By deciding you’re going to use tags that are trending for the US then you need to make sure to be posting at US times. I rarely post on Pinterest during the UK day time because my pins gain fair more traction from an American audience.
If you’re using tags more aimed at an UK audience then you need to post at a UK time. I’ve also found consistency is everything – the more consistent I am the better my views are.
