AD| Why Etsy? Etsy is a great platform for creatives to sell their products on a user friendly site which has a similar layout to eBay. With an easy search function, it allows the user to look through products with ease and also allows businesses to promote their products on the site.
It’s also an affordable alternative to making your own site, as it gives you the freedom to have your own store without the added addition of hosting, needing a website with a shopping function and more. This is why many startups turn to Etsy when launching their small business.
So what other things are to be considered when setting up your own Etsy store? Here are 4 things to consider before launching your store.
Packaging Choices
Packaging can sometimes be an afterthought, however, this can be a mistake. Using eco-friendly packaging allows you to use good quality packaging as well as helping the environment. Lil Packaging is an amazing retailer of packaging, where you can even buy in smaller quantities, suiting that of a small biz. Their packaging is also secure, easy to recycle and requires no plastic. With their packaging coming in all shapes and sizes, it’s a great place to start.
Pricing
When deciding a price to sell your items for, it’s important to bear in mind to consider Etsy fees, alongside manufacturing costs and if postage will be included or be an extra on top. By checking what your competition are selling items for, this should give you a clear indication of what price range to aim for. This allows you to be competitive in your pricing which should increase your sales.
Start Off Small
When it comes to making products, it’s worth creating a small selection to start out with, to trial the products and see what kind of reception the products get. Following this those which are popular, they can be made/ordered in a larger quantity.
Create Mockups
If you’ve never used mockups, now is a great time to start. By adding your products on to digital mockups, it allows you to give the user a 3D vision of the product they’ll be buying, whether it’s a print, a piece of jewellery or something else. By searching for free mockups online you should find a number of options to help bring your product to life.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and if you’re interested in finding out about any of my prints I will be selling over on my Etsy store, feel free to check them out here.

I’ve set up an Etsy store which I’m slowly adding more things too, but I feel like I’ve got a way to go before I make any money from it!
I love the idea of mock ups. I actually thought they were only for digital products, but it looks like they’re not! I also love the idea of the plastic free packaging. I’ll have to check out lil packaging when I start selling properly 😊

these are all great tips! I have been thinking for so long to open up an Etsy shop but then never did it! Packaging in my opinion is so important, as well as being environmentally friendly I would look for something that is easy to unpack. I never hear of mockups, they sounds like a great idea to help you show your products x
