The most important thing we have in our life is our health. But we also have to remember that when we want to make life-changing habits, sometimes we’ve got to extend beyond these components. Deciding to give yourself a total makeover in your life is about addressing the situation you are in, and making small changes. When it comes to changing your life, many people believe that they’ve got to make massive alterations. And when it comes to making over your life, it’s more about getting the ball rolling when it comes to so many different components. Physically, mentally, and emotionally, there are certain actions that we can all benefit from starting.
Balance Your Body’s Chemicals
An imbalance of anything in our bodies will result in a deficiency. If you look at something like acupuncture, it is about unblocking channels in your chi. When you look at the imbalance of chemicals in your body, this can have a detrimental impact on your frame of mind and your physical health. Firstly, you should speak to your doctor to ensure that everything is in balance. This would consist of, but is not just relegated to:
- Vitamins
- Minerals
- Hormones
- Neurotransmitters
Addressing these four components will cover a wide range of areas. For example, if you have an imbalance of hormones, this could signify an issue with your thyroid. Ensuring that you go to the doctor to get a health MOT can give you a foundation to improve upon.
Understand Symptoms of Anxiety
The major mistake we all make from time to time is pushing through, and not realising that we are experiencing symptoms of anxiety. When you start to notice the signs, you can nip them in the bud. With something like anxiety, it is not a one-size-fits-all approach. There are so many different areas and symptoms that we all experience. But this is where incorporating practices into your life can help.
In addition, it may be worth utilising one of the many products out there that have been shown to reduce symptoms of mild anxiety. CBD is one modern example, and they come in everyday forms, like tinctures and CBD gummies. If you recognise the symptoms, you stand a better chance of keeping anxiety under control. When taking a gummy or multi-vitamin you hold under tongue the nutrients are absorbed and go straight into your bloodstream meaning the benefits can be seen quickly!
Ultimately, there is a lot of anecdotal research out there nowadays to suggest that CBD products can be a useful tool to combat anxiety. Accordingly, researching some of the different CBD brands out there such as Blessed CBD can help you to compare some of the unique products on the market.
Exercise Smart
If you are new to exercise, you may fall into one of the many traps associated with keeping fit. You may think that, in order to keep yourself functioning at your optimum, that you’ve got to go to the gym as much as humanly possible. This is not the case. There are many reasons to go to the gym that benefit you, such as the social aspect. But as far as your biomechanics are concerned, the very simple notion behind exercise is about giving your body a stimulus so it is forced to adapt. And with this in mind, you have to think about your ideal level of fitness. What do you consider to be fit? And you really have to narrow it down. For example:
- Would you like to compete in a Tough Mudder?
- Would you like to fight a boxing match?
- Would you like to do 25 press-ups in one go?
- Would you like to be able to run for 20 minutes without the need to catch your breath?
Each of these questions relates to a different level of fitness. And this is why it’s so important to ask yourself what you define fitness as. When you look at the people you admire for their physical feats, is it because of what they can do? It is important to remember that fitness is relative to the activity. Someone who can lift a car over their heads will not be able to run a marathon. And when you define what fitness is for you, you can then work towards it. For most people, functional strength is more than enough. And in which case, there are ways for you to exercise smart. Because all you need to do is apply the appropriate stimulus, and then rest adequately with the right nutrition.
There are many programs out there that are more than beneficial for the average person such as Body By Science, which focuses on applying a stimulus so strong that you are not recommended to exercise for at least one week, or even three weeks after you’ve done it. And this goes back to the idea of adapting your body to a certain stimulus. When you start to exercise in this manner, it gives you a lot more time for other things in your life. You may think that you need to be a gym bunny, but if you start to look at what your idea of fitness is, you may not need to be training CrossFit. But, more importantly, you will still be healthy!
Choosing Supportive Relationships
We have all experienced the wrong type of relationship. Whether it is a toxic friendship or a relationship that we didn’t break out of soon enough, we must remember the importance of surrounding ourselves with people that impact our health and happiness in a positive way. But it’s one thing to say that we choose the right person, it’s also recognising if we are the wrong person for them. After all, we are trying to change our lives, not others. This is harder than trying to find the right person for us.
We need to recognise if we are good for certain people in their lives. And while this can be construed in a negative way, because we have to address certain negativities in our lives it’s about choosing to surround ourselves with people that will make us feel better about ourselves. Ultimately, when we find people have a positive impact on us, it forces us to up our game. This is why you need to become self-aware. You need to examine why you choose negative relationships in your life. It could be due to problems from the past, which resulted in your inability to forge meaningful and close relationships.
Start Prioritising Sleep
If we sleep, it will have a significant impact on so many areas in our lives. We have to remember that a lack of sleep will impact our body and our mind. Getting proper sleep will have a benefit on your mood, your energy, as well as your weight regulation. In addition to this, your immune system will be better. Some people feel that lack of sleep is a badge of honour, that they have to get up before the early bird. But even if you are someone that thinks you haven’t got the time to get good sleep, now is the opportunity to break your sleep down.
If you can identify your sleep-wake cycles, you can break down your sleeping block into a sufficient number of sleep cycles during the course of a day. As sleep is measured in 90 minute periods, if you can target a certain number of cycles during the course of a 24-hour day, this will give you the opportunity to recover. There is more information on this at Healthy Diet Mag, and it can give you a fantastic perspective. If you start to recognise that sleep is about cycles, rather than the number of hours, it can change your life.
The Importance of Not Settling
If you settle, you are giving yourself permission to be insignificant. For all of the tips in the world on self-care, learning to not settle in life is arguably the best one. And settling comprises so many different areas, from relationships to your career. And sometimes, we can benefit from hindsight, and make the changes so we are happier. And when you look at something like your career, you have to remember that it is a third of your life.
If you find a career you do not enjoy, it’s going to attack your health. It doesn’t have to be a conventional job that suits your skillset, think about changing the environment, or doing something that is completely leftfield. Ultimately, as long as it makes you happy, this is one aspect of your life that you will never need to settle in.
There is always the opportunity to change your career. It may not happen tomorrow, but what you have to remember is that you’ve got all the time in the world to go towards something that truly ignites your fire. And this is something that we need to remember in life. We may think that there is no time to waste.
But perhaps life is about making changes so that when we finally shuffle off this mortal coil, we’ve done everything we need to do. The simple litmus test for this is to ask yourself if you have any regrets. You don’t need to have regrets. And when you start to think about giving yourself a total life makeover, you can tackle all of these components if you wish. But it would be far better for your frame of mind and your overall happiness to remember that life is not a race. Take the opportunities while you can to focus on one of these components, and you should see a massive difference.

Love this post, I’m really feeling so restless due to suddenly working fulltime and the lockdown. I already gave my house a small makeover and my closet is cleaner now, but my diet and exercise routine could definitely be spiced up a bit as well.

The part about not settling definitely hit home with me, I’m always in turmoil about what I want to do with my life, career wise! But doing something you don’t enjoy definitely has a big impact on happiness! I like the bit about fitness too, definitely agree that setting reasonable goals is the way to go! Great post ☺️

I definitely have got a great routine going in terms of sleep/waking up early etc and I run regularly and workout because I love my fitness and that is huge for me and even my mental health! Also I have definitely got better at weeding out the bad relationships recently, just because I want a more healthy life in terms of all my relationships. Great post x

These are all greta tips! I still need to get a good sleep routine and as you said now it’s the best time to tackle this! I really felt seen in the last part about never settling. I always say that’s it’s going to be my new motto, because I had previously settled so much in a job that I didn’t love and friendships, just because I wasn’t comfortable in changing or saying no. Thank you so much for sharing x

Yes to this post! I love how you focused on life changes, setting boundaries and self care to feel better on the inside rather than focus on external beauty xx

Brilliant advice here. I think some of these things are so easy to over look when it comes to living our best life. These are the sort of things that are goals we should all work towards.
Sleep for me is hugely important, finding the balance of productivity and overworking myself meant I forgot the importance of sleep. Now I go to bed much earlier so I can fit in reading but I wake early so I hit the ground running. I can fit in exercise, some blogging time and all before I leave for work at 7.30am!
Thanks for sharing x

I’ve learnt that sleep is definitely one of the most important things! I’ve been on a sleeping pill for 2 years now and I sleep SO much better now. Toxic relationships are super important too – they waste so much energy. Great post xx

This post is perfect and I know it will help so many people. I think that being aware of what you’re putting into your body is so key – for me especially. I take vitamins and try to eat as much fruit and veg as possible. I also try to exercise 5 times a week. These all contribute to making me more level and able to do my everyday job!

This so resonated with me! We really need to do what’s good for us, and not just do things because they are easy or others are doing them. That’s what an authentic life is all about imo.
