AD | When it comes to picking an energy supplier you may be lost at who to pick. When I moved into my new home earlier in the year, navigating suppliers for bills was a mind field. I wanted to pick an energy supplier who would help me save money and ultimately would be a good choice for the environment. If you’ve been with the same supplier for many years you may be thinking of switching to someone new. Being on the same tariff for many years can be can be expensive especially as energy prices are going up.
If you’ve been thinking of trying to make more sustainable choices going green on your energy is a great option as 40% of the UK’s CO2 emissions are created in the home.
Why Switch Energy Supplier?
In the current climate energy prices are increasingly rising. If you are on the same tariff you’ve been on for years it’s possible that you could be paying a lot more than you need to. Not only can you save money by switching to a new supplier and getting a great new sign up deal, but there are now more options in energy plans and types.
Lots of households are opting for sustainable energy suppliers and going with green energy tariff plans. They are available with many different suppliers and a great option for the planet.
Why Switch To A Renewable Energy Tariff
Renewable energy or green energy is energy that come from natural sources such as the sea, sun or wind, which is why they are referred to as renewable. Renewable gas mainly comes from a method called ‘anaerobic digestion’ which involves the breaking down of biodegradable material. Instead of using fossil fuels to generate gas and electricity where the extraction and burning of oil, gas or coal can cause harmful carbon admissions.
Switching is a great option to reduce your carbon footprint and save money at the same time. Research shows that a third of all UK households have opted for a green energy tariff.
How To Switch To A Renewable Energy Tariff
To find the best deal on the market, you’re going to need to know what your electric and gas bill is for the year. This will help you find the closest comparison if you decide to use an online calculator to pick a new supplier.
As a rule of thumb, when checking any new supplier or company you’re going to want to research the company and their customer service. Reading online reviews is often a great way to see what a company customer service is really like, and to me it’s one of the most important parts of picking a new provider. I personally want to know how the company deals with any issues or problems that may arise with the service. Make sure you can afford the cost of the provider and that you’re happy with the green energy they provide.
Once you’ve picked you’ll be able to use an auto switching service or comparison website or contact the supplier directly via the phone or on their website.
Which Supplier Should You Choose?
As mentioned above checking out reviews for providers is so important you can use companies like energy-review.co.uk to check out potential providers such as Orbit energy. Which is a well rated provider of green energy as you can see from the review.

I wish we had this option where I live. Unfortunately we only have one energy supplier to choose from. I love learning about how things work in other countries though! 🙂

Thank you for pointing out the benefits of switching to a renewable energy source. Our provider where I live is a green energy source for electricity so I’m happy about that as I definitely care what happens to our planet.

My partner usually sorts out the bills but I feel like I should look into things more to try save a bit of money! Especially because a lot of things like this offer cashback through Quidco etc so you can get an even better bonus.

I need to look at changing our supplier. We have been with the same one for years. I think you have to give the greener companies a chance if we want to help our environment.
