When looking at our hair, we can often feel like it is dull and drab and needs some serious tlc. Now and again it is so important to maintain your hair with good hair care routines as well as deep conditioning masks that will protect the hair and keep it safe.
Today we want to share with you some of the best essential haircare tips you can bring into your normal haircare routine to allow your locks to shine and grow strong this year.
Wash less, gain shiny hair
One of the best tips we have for maintaining healthy and thick hair is to reduce the amount of times you wash your hair throughout the week. If you wash your hair too often, it will never get the chance to absorb all of those essential oils and as a result your hair can become dry, brittle, and straw-like. Try to only wash your hair 2-3 times a week, and reduce this as much as you can throughout the year to keep the hair healthy and shiny. By allowing oil to wash over your hair for a couple of extra days, you will see noticeable improvements in the condition of the hair and it will be much shinier.
Be gentle when shampooing
When you are looking after your hair, choosing a good shampoo is important. Joico have a very nice range of shampoos and once you have a great one to suit your hair type, it is time to learn how to properly wash your hair workout damaging it. Don’t ever be rough with your scalp and scratch it while washing hair because this will only serve to hurt your head and hair. Be gentle and softly rub the shampoo through the roots only, and allow the shampoo to run down your hair naturally instead of scrubbing your ends.
Use lukewarm water
There is a myth out there that using cold water to wash your hair is best because it minimises heat damage. Although technically this is true, you will never effectively wash your hair if you don’t use a little bit of warmth on the head. The warmth of lukewarm water will open up the pores of the hair and this will allow ion to effectively wash and get rid of dirt and debris in your hair. If you never use any heat, you won’t be washing your hair and it will quickly become greasy.
Use products and serums
It is important to look after your hair even after the shower and this is where serums and products such as Kintsugi Awakening Mist come into play. There are so many amazing hair products out there and they all serve to strengthen the hair and hydrate it. Use serum after you shower but before you brush out the hair. Apply this to the ENDS ONLY and then use a wet brush such as a tangle teezer to brush the knots out of your hair and evenly distribute the product. This will leave you with stronger and healthier hair.

great tips! i try to go a few days in between washes & when i do that my hair feels healthier. i recently went through an issue where a shampoo caused my hair to shed more. since then, i’ve been trying to be more gentle with my hair.

When lockdown started I was able to reduce the number of times a week I wash my hair. And now I only wash it twice a week! I do feel that I need a serum for the ends though, thanks for these ideas 🙂

Great tips! I was never one to scrub my scalp hard because mine is so sensitive—good to know that was good for my hair. I also switched out to a microfibre towel to dry my hair so it doesn’t frizz as much.

These are great tips! I used to wash my hair every other day or so but lately I’ve been trying to space it out to every 3rd day so that my hair doesn’t get so dry.

Love your advice for keeping one’s hair as healthy as possible on a day-to-day basis! I do not like cold showers so I always go for a lukewarm wash and try to shampoo only a couple of times a week. Since I have greasy hair, I sometimes wash a little more often.
Thanks for sharing a wholesome shampoo brand too!

Washing less frequently is such a good tip – if you wash every day, it strips your hair of natural oils and stimulates your scalp to produce more, which traps you in a viscous circle. Lukewarm water is also a good tip – thank you, Kayleigh! x

These are great tips! I wash my hair twice a week and use dry shampoo in between washes if I need to! I have heard that cold water is best to wash your hair with, but I never followed that as I love warm showers, so it’s good to know that lukewarm water is better!
