AD Affiliate links | As a blogger it can be really hard to get out there, build your blog and brand and to simultaneously grow your social media presence. In the past year I’ve done a lot to improve my social media presence. After my Twitter was hacked I had to rebuild my account from scratch and I’ve built it back up to 1/3 of my original following in just 6 months.
Social media can be an exceptional tool. The problem is that most people don’t actually know how to utilise it properly to get results. You don’t need a large platform to make sales, just an engaged one. Even the most successful bloggers will tell you this, because it’s true. Today I’ll be sharing 5 social media strategies you need to consider as a blogger!
Why Do I Need A Social Media Strategy?
Social media is a powerful tool for growth. Here are some of the benefits of having a good social media strategy:
- Increased blog views
- Increased awareness of your brand
- Creating a connection with your audience
- The opportunity to grow your mailing list
- Building new brand or sponsored relationships
- Improved affiliate sales
- Making more money with AD programs
I think the benefits really do speak for themselves. I know a lot of bloggers juggle many social medias at once, but if you’re looking to grow I’d always recommend working on one social platform, mastering it and then moving on. You don’t need to spread yourself too thin.

1 Create YOUR Unique Branding
When it comes to content, marketing and social media there is already so much out there. You don’t need to be posting multiple times on all platforms, throughout the day. Really there is such a thing as too much.
You also don’t want your branding to be a carbon copy of someone else’s. You don’t want to be doing what everyone else is doing. Take the time to design something that is personal to you, something which makes your branding stand apart from everyone else.
As a content creator it is so important to create a solid brand for yourself. If you struggle with creating high quality graphics consider outsourcing the work for a logo and or branding colours. You can find high quality stock photos to distinguish your photography, or a beautiful new blog theme to help you stand out.
2 The 60/40 Stategy
No one wants deals, affiliate codes and posts thrown at them 24/7. The 60/40 content strategy is one I personally follow. Where 60% of the time you post content that is not related to what you’re trying to advertise or sell, and you limit your advertising and selling to the 40%.
This balance allows for you to have a genuine connection with your audience, because they will be following you for your content and business.
When posting on Instagram you might be looking for new hashtags, which is where a hashtag generator could be useful. You can use this tool to find the perfect combination of hashtags for each of your posts that will hopefully help you to reach as many people as possible.
3 Recycle Old Content
As a full time blogger or even a hobby/part time blogger, there will be times when you are too busy to create new content. Unfortunately, you do need to be consistent as a blogger, so recycling old content can become a great way to strategies old content. Being successful isn’t all about creating new content, it’s about having continuous traffic to all your content, new and old. It will keep your social media active even if you are busy.
Recycling content is a great way to bring more traffic to posts with affiliate links.
4 Team Up With Other Bloggers
In my time as a blogger some of my best social media growth has come from working with other bloggers. For example running collaborative competitions with other creatives, teaming up to create content with other bloggers. This allows your blog or business to be seen by a new fresh audience, and with those collaborating sharing it, you’re likely to see more follows, share, views and ultimately growth.
Remember that the most important part of collaborating is creating content that is valuable to the reader or the audience that sees it. The more on brand and the more helpful it is, the better the outcome will be.
5 Focus On Consistency
In the blogging world multiple social media sites/websites have different algorithms. Meaning it is so hard to be seen on all platforms. Why I don’t necessarily believe in trying to grow all platforms at the same time. Being consistent on the platforms you do use is so important. It gives you a better chance of being picked up by the algorithm and growing. For example I only use Twitter, LinkedIn and occasionally Pinterest. I don’t really give any time to Instagram as it’s not really a platform for me. Being consistent means you’re putting yourself and your work out there regularly.
If you work with graphics a lot on your social media, you’re going to make sure that your branding colours match and are consistent. If you use a lot of images you would want to make sure that your branding is consistent through a present or a colour scheme, or something like that.
One of the best things that will be you with being consistent is using an online scheduler. I personally use Buffer for my tweets, and I use Pinterest’s scheduler for my pins. Even all my blog posts are pre-created a scheduler around 1-3 months before they go live.
I’d love to know what your favourite strategies are as a blogger. I personally really enjoy consistency and trying to organically grow.

I am loving that so many bloggers are promoting their blog posts on my twitter feed, it feels like the old blogging days. I do think there needs to be a balance though – especially with aff links. If it’s too spammy, I disengage!

I don’t think I have a huge social media strategy, other than trying to keep consistent. I’ve recently had a couple of weeks off to spend time with family & enjoy a little staycation and can already see the difference in my stats just from loosing that momentum. It’s not a bad thing though! I feel much more motivated now and actually energised to put everything back into my blog. My husband is a graphic designer and he’s currently in the process of rebranding for me which is exciting! I can’t wait to get it live on my blog / socials. Thanks for sharing this! You’ve definitely reminded me about recycling old content! That’s something I need to do.

I used to use IG a lot, but hardly post at all on there at the moment. I mostly use Twitter and Pinterest at the moment. Thanks for the advice in this post.

Great tips here! I especially love the 60:40 strategy. I always try to promote on twitter but not too much. Having balance keeps my feed more personal and interesting.
