Guest Post | We are Little Miss Twiggie Twinkles, and we are so happy to be guest posting for Kayleigh today! This post will focus on ways you can maintain an amazing self-care routine and working life balance. Self-care can be difficult to maintain at the best of times. However, when we are working hard, self-care becomes almost non-existent. It is so important to ensure every week you take time out to refresh your body and mind. This could be having a little pamper day or doing something you love depending on your self-care needs. Remember self-care and your mental health should always remain your priority over anything else.
Meditation
Meditation is an activity I have recently introduced to my self-care routine. I am finding it so helpful in regulating my emotions, decreasing stress, and improving my sleep schedule. It is so easy to incorporate into your busy life as it takes only ten minutes of your day. Set up a time first thing in the morning if you can and find a cosy place to perform your meditation. You can use apps such as headspace to help you relax and focus.
More importantly, meditation has an amazing effect on your mental health. It benefits your general outlook on life as it helps you gather your thoughts and focus on your personal wants and needs. It is an amazing detox for your body.
Have a Pamper Night
Taking time out to fully relax your body will not only help you feel better in yourself, but it will also benefit your mind. Having a designated night to relax each week will train your body and mind to wind down. I personally love to relax in the bath. Baths relax your muscles and give you time to gather your thoughts and clear your head.
Why not add some relaxing bath salts and use some scented wax melts to really unwind? Little Miss Twiggie Twinkles sell a huge range of scented wax melts for different occasions. There are so many different scents to choose from and they will make your home smell amazing. Our recent blog post 10 Amazing Benefits to using Wax Melts will give you even more benefits to using wax melts in your self-care routine.
Exercise
Exercise has been proven to improve your mood through increasing the production of endorphins. However, having a busy life can mean exercise is near impossible on some days. Try to find a time you do not have other commitments and dedicate time to exercise a few times a week. This will benefit your body and mind and should become an essential part of your self-care routine.
Schedule Time for Yourself
Life can get super busy sometimes, but it is so important to ensure you schedule time for self-care each week. The most common reasons for people who struggle to engage with self-care is that they feel they do not have enough time. Having a designated day to relax each week will train your body and mind to wind down and give you much needed rest.
Maintain a Healthy Diet and Remember to Drink
It is easy to forget to drink or to choose a takeaway over a home cooked meal when you have lots of other things to think about. Focus on what you are putting in your body and try to maintain a balanced diet with lots of water to stay hydrated. We can get easily distracted when busy but keeping your body healthy massively contributes to keeping a positive mental state.
If you have an extremely busy life, why not take time to meal prep some healthy food for the week? You can store the food in your freezer to keep it fresh. This should take you a few hours every weekend but will eliminate the time barrier for the rest of the week! Therefore, you can keep up your healthy eating while on the go. Eating a balanced diet and your recommended intake of water will increase your motivation and productivity so ensure it is always one of your self-care priorities.
Keep in Touch with Family and Friends
Talking is an amazing form of self-care. Some days we do not always have time for an hour-long phone call. However, taking time out of each day to send a quick message to your loved ones will not only benefit your self-care routine but it will also make them feel amazing. Reach out to your loved ones whenever you get the chance- a problem shared is a problem halved.
Starting a Gratitude Journal
I have recently started a gratitude journal and it has changed my outlook on life. Try to take a couple of minutes each day to write down things you are thankful for. This could be anything. Just three positive things that make you happy. This is also helpful to look back on when you are having a down day.
Give Yourself a Break
Overworking can lead to heightened stress levels as it becomes difficult to distinguish between work and leisure. Taking breaks in your working environment is so important. Try to take a five to ten-minute break every hour and give your mind a short rest. This is especially important if you are looking at a screen all day as it can be damaging for your health and eyesight. Short breaks improve your productivity and relieve stress.
Have a Technology Detox
For many of us, majority of our day is spent in front of a screen, and it can make our brain overactive. This prevents the wind down at the end of the day our bodies need to relax and recharge. Set a specific time before bed and unwind with a book instead of scrolling though social media. Unwinding before bed will help you have a much better night’s sleep.
Seek Help When You Need It
Some people thrive in busy situations but for others it can be extremely stressful and can lead to negative feelings. Nobody is superhuman, we can all become overwhelmed at times. If you are feeling down or anxious, please do not hesitate to talk to a loved one about how you are feeling or reach out to an expert. You should never feel embarrassed about your feelings. Admitting when you need a little extra help is an elite form of self-care.
Prioritising your time to incorporate self-care into your busy week is a huge challenge. However, by using these tips you should be able to change your habits and schedule to ensure you are focusing on your mental and physical wellbeing at all times. It can take time to adapt a positive self-care routine that works for you but the benefits it will have on your mood and wellbeing are endless.

Time to myself is def the best thing for me! I don’t get much of it but really need it as I often feel a bit touched out as my baby is at the stage where he’s constantly bashing and grabbing my hair etc!
